The latest data of Russian constitutional referendum: nearly 80% agree that Putin may be re-elected until 2036.
The referendum on amendments to the Russian Constitution was held on July 1st. The latest statistics show that Russians voted overwhelmingly in favor of amending the Constitution.
According to Reuters, after counting 98% of the votes, the official results showed that the turnout rate was 65%, 78% of the votes supported amending the Constitution, and only over 21% voted against it.
The constitutional amendments include raising pensions, setting minimum wages, and lifting the term limit of the president. If the constitutional amendment is passed, the 67-year-old current President Putin will be able to continue to stand for election in 2024 and be re-elected until 2036.
European Commission President Ella • Ella Pamfilova said that the voting process was transparent and officials had done their best to ensure its fairness.
The Paper previously reported that according to the draft constitutional amendment, paragraphs 1 and 2 of Article 81 stipulate the election method of the Russian president and the qualifications of candidates, and paragraph 3 stipulates that the same person may not serve as the president of the Russian Federation for more than two terms. However, article 81, paragraph 31, stipulates that the stipulation of article 81.3 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, that is, limiting the term of office of the same person as the president of the Russian Federation, does not include the number of terms of office of the president of the Russian Federation and/or the president of the Russian Federation when the amendment comes into effect, and does not prevent those who have served as the president of the Russian Federation and/or are serving as the president of the Russian Federation from participating in the presidential election when the amendment comes into effect.
Previously, valentina &bull, a member of the United Russia Party; During the second reading of the draft amendment in the State Duma on March 10th, tereshkova proposed that the limitation on the number of presidential terms should be abolished in the amendment, or that the term of office of the current president should be counted from zero after the constitutional amendment came into effect.
Putin then spoke at the second reading. While clearly expressing his opposition to the lifting of the restrictions on the Russian presidency, he expressed his support for the proposal to return his presidency to zero. Putin also said that if the proposal is passed by referendum and the Constitutional Court does not object, he may participate in the presidential election again. (The Paper reporter Nan Boyi)
