Covid-19 mutates again? Britain reports the recombination of three COVID-19 varieties.

BEIJING, April 1 (Xinhua) Recently, the British government official website announced the reorganization of three COVID-19 varieties. According to the data, 637 cases of XE have been reported in Britain (that is, the recombination of BA.1 and BA.2 in Omicron).

According to the website, when an individual is infected with two or more COVID-19 varieties at the same time, a recombinant variant will be produced. This situation is not uncommon. During the COVID-19 pandemic, several COVID-19 varieties have been found to recombine.

UKHSA analyzed three cases, namely XE, namely the reorganization of BA.1 and BA.2 in Omicron, and XD and XF, namely the reorganization of Delta and BA.1 in Omicron.

The data showed that 38 cases of XF and 637 cases of XE were found in Britain. No XD cases have been found, but 49 cases have been reported in the global database, most of which are in France.

With regard to XE cases, Professor Hopkins, the chief medical consultant of UKHSA, specifically pointed out that there is not enough evidence to draw a conclusion about its transmission, severity or vaccine effectiveness.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO, said on March 30th that the existing research shows that the most likely scenario is that Covid-19 will continue to evolve, but with the enhancement of human immunity due to vaccination or virus infection, the severity of diseases caused by Covid-19 will decrease over time.
